From Monday 8th August our contractors, Walker Construction will start highway works to upgrade two pedestrian crossings along Wellington Avenue in Aldershot town centre.
The works will see the current Pelican crossings at the junction with Court Road and outside the High Street Car Park improved and turned into Toucan crossings, allowing a shared surface for both pedestrians and cyclists to safely cross at the same time.
These works are being carried out as part of the wider Wellesley development to improve access between Aldershot town centre and the new housing development.
The works are expected to be complete by mid November. During this time we will endeavour to keep vehicle routes open (although traffic controls may be in place) and we will provide temporary pedestrian crossings. There may however at some stages be a requirement to close the road for resurfacing during some evenings.
The contractors will be setting up a temporary site compound on land off Willems Avenue adjacent to Hospital Hill.
Once these works are complete we are intending to commence improvement works to the Wellington Avenue junction with Hospital Hill.
