Grainger plc, has teamed up with Rushmoor Borough Council’s Skilled Up initiative, to create the Wellesley Community Rooms in Aldershot.
The team of ten workers started on site a couple of weeks ago to strip out, reconfigure and decorate a former Garrison Portacabin, which sits off Alison’s Road, and convert it into an interim community space with a hall and meeting rooms.
The building sits within the Wellesley housing development and will be open for the Aldershot and Wellesley community to hire and use. From children’s birthday parties to meetings, the space will be adaptable allowing it to be used for a number of different functions.
The Skilled Up programme, developed by Rushmoor Borough Council and Jobcentre Plus, offer four week training opportunities, using construction based work to support unemployed individuals to develop the confidence and skills needed to get back into work. During the programme participants also work towards construction qualifications.
The Community Rooms will be available to use until the permanent community building opens at Wellesley in a few years.
The facility will open later this year with residents being able to make online bookings in the autumn.
