Site visits for Military Service Leavers

Wellesley recently welcomed another of our regular site visits from Service Leavers who will soon be leaving the Military and are being trained in a variety of construction roles.

Howard Kennedy, Construction Project Manager for Wellesley said "We really value this opportunitiy to support and encourage local employment, and to provide an insight to what a live building site is like."

The 17 Service Leavers visited our McGrigor phase, which sits to the south-east of the development just in front of the Cambridge Military Hospital, and is being delivered by CALA Homes. The finished phase will feature 108 thoughtfully designed homes ranging from one-bedroom apartments to four-bedroom houses.

As part of the work CALA are converting two Victorian military barracks named after Dr James McGrigor, Director of the Army Medical Services (1815-51) and appointed by the Duke of Wellington. There are only a small number of barrack buildings from this era remaining, the others are Grade II listed and now form part of the Aldershot Military Museum on Queens Avenue.
