The Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular, organised by Rushmoor Borough Council, will be returning to Manor Park, Aldershot on Saturday 29 October – and this year, admission is free.
The event has been held at Manor Park for more than twenty years and has grown to be one of the largest public fireworks events in the region, attracting between 7,000 and 10,000 people each year.
And thanks to the support of event partners Grainger plc and Barons BMW & MINI of Farnborough, the Council is offering free admission to the annual event to make up for the disappointment of last year’s cancellation when strong winds were forecast.
The format of the event will be slightly different to previous years, with gates opening at 5pm. A large funfair, with catering vehicles offering food and refreshments, will be available leading up to the 20-minute firework spectacular, which will start at 7.30pm. There will be no separate children’s display nor stage entertainment. Free parking will be available from 3pm at the Parsons Barracks and High Street car parks.
Councillor David Clifford, Leader of Rushmoor Borough Council said: “The Fireworks Spectacular is one of the biggest and best events in Rushmoor’s calendar. When the bad weather forced us to cancel last year’s display and caused so much disappointment for our residents, we decided to review the event, with the aim of giving something back to the community and thanking everyone who has supported it over the years. Residents can expect a display as impressive as always – full of dazzling colour and loud bangs.”
Councillor Clifford added: “By making the event free and holding it a week earlier than usual, in the unfortunate event that we have to cancel again, residents will still have the chance to attend another display over the following bonfire night weekend. Huge thanks go to both Grainger plc and Barons of Farnborough for their financial support, which has helped us to make the event free.”
Alan Chitson, Development Manager at Grainger plc said, “We are thrilled to be able to support the Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular. It’s a wonderful community event for Aldershot and we will be encouraging our new residents at Wellesley to come along and enjoy the display.”
Mark Althorp, Head of Business at Barons BMW & MINI of Farnborough said, “The Rushmoor Fireworks Spectacular always provides a top class display, and pulls in crowds from far and wide. We are proud to be associated with the event, and pleased that our involvement has helped in enabling admission to be offered for free”.
