It’s been a busy first half of the year here at Wellesley. On our Maida Zone, we are continuing to see more residents move into their new Bellway homes with the second phase of this zone now on sale. For more details please call Bellway on 0333 577 3135.
Opposite Maida on the western side of Queens Avenue is our Corunna Zone. Our demolition contractors have almost finished taking down the former Montgomery Lines Barracks and we shall be starting work on the new infrastructure early this summer with construction of houses starting later this year.
We have also been progressing with the site of the first of two new primary schools within Wellesley. The site, at the junction of Alisons Road and Queens Avenue, is currently being cleared in readiness to handover the land to Hampshire County Council. We have also been busy constructing an extension of Steeles Road, off Queens Avenue which will initially serve the school and later in the development lead to further housing. The county council have obtained planning approval for the school and it is expected their contractors will commence building work later this year.
We recently received planning approval for our Gunhill Zone. This zone lies to the south of the development and within it we will be creating purpose-built, specially designed rental homes and apartments. We will be starting construction work in this area later this year.
There are a number of highway works that we will be implementing outside Wellesley. The main highway works will provide a slip road onto the A331 off Government Road for vehicles travelling north towards the M3. We have recently started clearing the site to make way for the new slip road. These works included clearing the trees and scrub along sections of the wooded banks adjacent to the lower part of Government Road and a section running along the A331. The actual construction of the slip road will start in the winter and will include rebuilding the Government Road Bridge over the Basingstoke Canal.
There will also be off-site highway works starting later in the summer to improve cycle and pedestrian links from Wellesley into Aldershot town centre. These works will include widening footpaths along Hospital Hill to allow them to be shared pedestrian and cycle ways. We will also carry out works to improve the crossing of Wellington Ave / Hospital Hill junction.
