With Spring on the way, why not take your camera or smartphone for a walk in Wellesley Woodlands and capture Aldershot’s outstanding natural environment for the Wellesley Woods Photography Competition?
There is no topic or theme to the competition, the only restriction is that all entries must have been taken in Wellesley Woodlands – which is a 110-hectare site that stretches from Eelmoor Bridge in the west to Chalk Farm Lake in the east and includes the iconic Wellington Statue. To download a guide to the woodlands, and plan your visit go to www.wellesleywoodlands.co.uk where you can find maps and information on the woodland’s trails and car parks.
The competition is being run by Blackwater Valley Countryside Partnership (BVCP), who manage Wellesley Woodlands in partnership with the Land Trust and Grainger plc. Nicci Shepherd, Community Engagement Coordinator at the BVCP said:
“We want people to go outdoors and capture the beauty of Wellesley Woodlands. With accessible paths and canal-side walks, the woodlands are free to enter and easy to visit.
Spring is on the way and the natural world is changing daily – so no two visits to Wellesley Woodlands will be the same! You don’t have to be an experienced photographer with an expensive camera – our judges are looking for an image that captures the experience of visiting Wellesley Woodlands in this competition.”
There are two age categories in the competition, under 18 and over 18, with a first prize and highly commended award in both age categories. The competition will be judged by local photographer Chris Bean and the winning entries will be displayed at the Wellesley May Fete, which is being held at Cambridge Primary School on Saturday 4 May. The four winners will each receive a framed copy of their photograph. More information on the May Fete can be found at www.wellesleywoodlands.co.uk
The competition is open until Monday 22 April
Entries should be attached to an email and sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
